The world is full of music apps these days, and it's hard to know which one is actually worth your time. This blog post is going to help you find the best app for every type of sound that you're looking for.
To give you a sense of what I'm talking about, I've created a basic breakdown of the types of music that are available. If you're not familiar with the type of music that I'm talking about, I provided links to Wikipedia to help show you. Just be aware that this isn't meant as a comprehensive reference; it's just something to give you an idea!
Electronic (Electronic Dance Music (EDM)) This is the type of music that has synthesizers and/or virtual analog synthesizers like those found in Roland's V-Drums or Yamaha's VL1. There will also be plenty of drum machines and 8-bit sounds. The goal of this type of music is to make people dance, and it's often used as a form of background music at parties. Jazz This is the type of music that usually has a soloist playing over top of a small band. Usually, the soloist will improvise their lines as they go. A lot of jazz is instrumental as well! This genre's popularity really started to surge in the 1930s and 40s thanks to artists like Leroy "Blind" Lemon Jefferson and Louis Armstrong. The genre became so popular that the public even began referring to it as "Hot Jazz", which eventually became "Jazz". Many artists released big band records accompanied by small ensembles instead of big bands, so this style of music is often called "Chamber Jazz". (Some notable artists: Miles Davis, John Coltrane)
Trap This sub-genre of hip-hop has a harder sound than the previous sub-genres. Trap will have a slightly harsher bass quality to it, which makes it easier to distinguish over other genres. Since trap is not as popular as the other sub-genres, there are often strictly hip-hop songs that are labeled as trap tracks. A lot of trap songs will make use of 808s, creating a hard hitting sound to accompany the hard beats. (Some notable artists: Future, Migos)
House This type of music is usually dance-oriented and based on house and techno-style music. It has a very rhythmic and driving feel to it, and has a lot of crossover appeal. House also tends to be very simple, usually with the sounds coming from the hi-hats and kick drums. Often times, house will make use of the Roland TR-808 drum machine sound (and its successors), giving it more of a mechanical sound than other genres.
